When five IBM engineers working in an enterprise-wide system were asked to abandon the project, they chose to quit their jobs continuing with the project; thus resulted SAP in the year 1972 in Germany. SAP was founded by these five former IBM engineers – Dietmar Hopp, Klaus Tschira, Hans-Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, and Claus Wellenreuther. Over the years, SAP continued to evolve with different versions, namely R1, R2, R3; ECC 6.0 being the latest version of SAP solutions.
